Colusa remains perfect on the season
While it was still premature to crown the Colusa High girls soccer team as Sacramento Valley League champs at deadline for this story, the girls were probably safe making an appointment for a fitting.
With a 3-0 home win Tuesday over Esparto, the Lady Redskins all but wrapped up another league title, raising their SVL mark to 12-0 with four games remaining. Second-place Williams stood at 8-3, but that was before the two teams faced off Thursday in Williams.
Mathematically, the odds are looking real good.
Nanci Villanueva notched two more goals — her 16th and 17th of the season - and Jessica Garcia netted her 13th, with assists coming from Villanueva, Hannah Carter and Stephine Munguia.
Colusa flooded the Esparto goal with a 20-shot deluge, with Villanueva and Garcia each firing off six, and Carter and Taylor Herrick each attempting three.
Diana Madrigal's four steals was tops, with Villanueva and Carli Marengo each coming up with three.
The Redskins played at Esparto Friday. Next week they play at Pierce Thursday, and finish the regular season Friday, hosting Rio Vista.
