Colusa tennis closes season with promise

Singles and doubles players receive All-League nod

The Colusa High tennis team wrapped up its successful season Saturday, setting the groundwork for what coach Jim Imhoff feels should be a very competitive squad next fall.

On Saturday, Talyn Imhoff and Tenille Tauscher teamed up to play in the North Section Tournament at Foothill High in Palo Cedro, but were unlucky enough to draw top-seeded Live Oak duo Jennifer DeWitt and Daniella Dumitras. Imhoff/Tauscher were defeated 2-6, 2-6, but could hardly look at the loss as a disappointment.

During the Sacramento Valley League championships played Oct. 23-24 at the Yuba City Racquet Club, Imhoff/Tauscher finished second to DeWitt/Dumitras 0-6, 5-7, but their second-place showing earned the pair All-League status. The tandem first beat Live Oak's No. 5 team 8-4; Willows No. 3 squad 6-3, 6-2; and Live Oak's No. 3 pairing 6-4, 7-6 (7-5) to reach the finals.

In singles play, Mickie Wilson earned All-League accolades with wins over Willows' Anna Poldervaart (8-5) and Kylie Gammon (6-1, 6-7 (2-7), 6-4, before falling in the finals to top-seeded DeWitt of Live Oak.

Katy Tarr came close to defeating two different squad's top players, beating Mercy's Mariah Lowe 9-7, before coming up short to Willows' Chelsea Browning 6-3, 2-6, 4-6.

Madison Forney topped Mercy's Marina Gist (8-0), before losing to eventual champion Alora Sutcliffe of Live Oak 1-6, 2-6.
