Maxwell quells Quincy bats

The Maxwell High boys baseball team pounded out eight hits Saturday, while hurlers Tyler Wells and Kent Leber silenced Quincy's bats by allowing just two, in an 11-2 decision over the Trojans.

The win allowed the Panthers to finish 2-1 in the Glenn Cox Tournament played at Los Molinos High.

Wells took a no-hitter into the fifth inning, allowing two hits and two runs, one of which was earned. Leber closed out the five-inning contest with a perfect inning of work.

James Bowen went 2-for-3, ripping a triple and driving home three runs, while Dylan deWit singled and plated three for the Panthers.

Also singling for Maxwell were Russell Jones, Steven Powell and Derek Mench, while Wells doubled.

Powell, Kent Leber and Nathan Azevedo each scored a pair of runs.

Maxwell (2-1) played at Williams Tuesday, and remains on the road for a Wednesday date at University Prep in Redding.
