Maxwell 10, Williams 0
The Yellowjackets put up a fight for the first three innings but the Panthers pulled away in the final two innings to invoke the 10-run rule Friday in Maxwell.
Allison Costa allowed one hit in five innings of shutout ball and racked up seven strikeouts for Maxwell (2-0).
Jenna Powell went 2-for-4 at the plate with four RBIs, and Jessie Otterson and Lauren LaGrande banged out two hits each for the Panthers offense.
Both teams are back in action on Thursday. Williams (0-2) hosts Elk Creek High and Maxwell plays at home against Esparto High.
Maxwell 17, Woodland Christian 1
The Maxwell High softball team wasted little time getting the offense going during its season opener against visiting Woodland Christian on Feb. 29.
Shelen Boyes and Ashley Azevedo led the Panthers 16-hit onslaught with three hits each. Boyes scored three times and drove in two runs, and Azevedo doubled and crossed the plate three times.
Brittney Haywood went 2-for-3 at the plate with three RBIs, and Andi Robledo added two hits and two runs scored. Powell and Nicole Robledo both drove in two runs.
Costa controlled the Cardinals from the circle, tossing a no-hitter and striking out nine while allowing one unearned run.
