Lady Trojans clip RedHawks
The Orland High girls tennis team survived the heat and the RedHawks on Tuesday afternoon and bested visiting Colusa 7-2 in league action.
In the singles matches, Colusa's Coral Imhoff and Orland's Stacey Ramirez, their respective teams' number ones, provided the highlight of the afternoon with an exciting and lengthy singles match that ended with Imhoff grabbing the victory 6-7, (6-8), 7-5, 7-6, (7-5).
The Trojans' Cassandra Carper defeated Kimberlee Harmon 6-2, 4-6, 6-2, while teammate Raquel Ontiveroz thwarted Stephanie Munguia 6-2, 6-2.
Sabrina Carper bested the RedHawks' Mackenzie Bressler 6-1, 6-4, while Orland's Gessica Leuschner topped Cheyenne Laux (6-4, 6-4). Melina Torres rounded out singles play for the Trojans with a 6-4, 6-0 win over Taylor Davies (6-4, 6-0).
Doubles saw Imhoff/Harmon get past Ramirez/C. Carper 8-6; Ontiveroz/S. Carper triumphed over Muniguia/Davies 8-6; and Torres/Leuchner edged Bressler/Laux 9-7.
Colusa head coach Jim Imhoff was pleased with his teams' effort, especially in light of the talented teams in the section, commenting, "We have a really good team, and there are definite bright spots. We will have to work hard this year, as it will be tough to make it to the section championships, but I think we can do it."
With the win, Orland is 9-2 overall. The Lady Trojans traveled to Live Oak on Thursday to take on the league- rival Lions.
Colusa hosts Wheatland on Tuesday.
