Varsity Softball
Pierce 12, Esparto 3
The Bears improved to 2-2 this season and picked up their first Mid-Valley League victory on Friday, winning 12-3 against Esparto in Arbuckle.
Nikki Herrera doubled and drove in three runs, Riley Voorhees went 2 for 3 with a double, three runs and an RBI, and Carissa Cabral went 2 for 3 with a double, three runs and three stolen bases.
Cheyenne Mitchell and Caitlyn Murphy doubled and Haleigh Shadinger drove in a run. Aloysa Anderson pitched the Bears to victory with seven strong innings.

Maxwell and Princeton take on LM tourney
The Panthers won their first two games of the Los Molinos tournament before losing to rival Fall River 8-6 on Saturday. Maxwell led 4-0 after two innings but consecutive three-run innings gave the Bulldogs the lead.
Princeton won its first game against Biggs 8-5 but lost to Maxwell 9-1 on Friday. Quincy pulled away from Princeton on Saturday and won 11-0, dropping the Eagles to 1-3 on the year.
Maxwell opened the tournament with an 11-5 victory against Biggs. The Panthers are 2-1.
Pierce 8, Esparto 1
Pierce (3-1, 1-1 MVL) bounced back from a 6-1 loss to Durham on Tuesday with a dominating victory against Esparto on Friday.
Alex Camuti and Oscar Sanchez both went 3 for 4 with a double and a RBI to lead a 14-hit attack by the Bears.
Jake Voorhees went 3 for 3 with an RBI and three runs, Joey Hernandez added two hits and an RBI, and Wyatt Croxson doubled and drove in a run.
Voorhees struck out eight in four innings to pick up the victory and Hayden Kalfsbeek tossed three shutout innings of relief.

Teams on track in Wheatland
The Colusa and Pierce high school track teams participated in the Roy Crabtree Pirate Classic in Wheatland on Friday.
Finishing in the top-3 in their respective events were: Boys 100 meters - Ryan Abele, Colusa, 11.59 seconds (1st); 200 - Abele, 23.66 (1st); 300 hurdles - Andres Mendez, Pierce, 44.98 (2nd) and Nieko Bates, Pierce, 47.76 (3rd); Girls 100 hurdles - Ashley Roman, Colusa, 18.06 (1st); 300 hurdles - Roman, 56.47 (1st); shot put - Evelyn Lievanos, Pierce, 34 feet, 10 inches (3rd); triple jump - Mariah Diaz, Pierce, 26-1 (3rd).
