Pierce claims county court battle

A pair of Colusa County foes met up Wednesday on the hardwood at Colusa High, as the Bears from Pierce tipped off with the Redskins. In a low-scoring contest, the two rivals were tied 14-14 at the break, but Pierce enjoyed a 24-15 scoring advantage in the second half and a resulting 38-29 victory.

Alberto Huerta and Rudy Godinez put up matching nine-point efforts to spearhead the Pierce offense, according to the Marysville Appeal-Democrat, while Hayden Meyers grabbed a share of game-scoring honors by hitting nine for Colusa.

Nick Allegrini and Geoff MacPherson each pitched in with six for the Redskins.

Pierce improved its record to 6-10 overall, while picking up its first win in the Sacramento Valley League to up its mark to 1-3.

The Bears welcomed Rio Vista to Arbuckle Friday. Next week they host Durham Tuesday, before invading Live Oak on Friday.

Colusa (6-13, 1-4 SVL) made a road trip to Durham Friday. In the coming week, Willows comes to town Tuesday, followed by Rio Vista on Friday.
