Pierce girls fall short in comeback attempt
Close, but not quite.
After staging a two-run rally in the seventh inning Tuesday, the Pierce High softball team was stopped just short of completing a comeback, 7-6 on the road at Vacaville Christian.
"I'm very impressed with ow the girls stayed in the game," said Jennifer Barham, Pierce coach.
Nothing got by Pierce's Alison Ornbaun, who went 4-for-4 at the plate, and teammate Celeste Lopez collected a pair of hits while also drawing a base on balls.
"Alison had an amazing game," Barham beamed. "She was 4-for-4 with a double and two RBIs, stole two bases and was part of two double plays." She added, "She has really emerged this year as a leader on our team, and has gained a lot of confidence that's going to carry her far."
Trisha Abele struck out one and walked two in six innings.
Pierce (0-3) took on Williams on the road Thursday.
In the upcoming week, the Lady Bears visit Rio Vista on Tuesday, and follow that with a road game Friday at Durham.
