Sports Roundup: Varsity, JV girls basketball results

Varsity Boys Basketball

Maxwell 64, Quincy 38

Zach Troughton scored 14 points and hauled in eight rebounds to lead the Panthers past the Trojans in an MVL contest.

George Barajas chipped in with 11 points and six assists, while Santiago Gonzalez tacked on nine points for Maxwell (13-5, 6-0).

Biggs 54, Colusa 46

The RedHawks (9-12, 3-3) dropped their third consecutive MVL game on Friday against Biggs. The Wolverines (12-9, 4-2) built a 39-28 lead entering the final quarter and held on to win.

Portola 66, Williams 50

Portola (8-10, 4-2) broke open a one-point game with a 27-15 third quarter and beat the Yellowjackets (6-11, 0-6) Monday at Williams High.

Varsity Girls Basketball

Maxwell 44, Quincy 26

Jessie Otterson scored 22 points to lead the Panthers as they stayed perfect in MVL action.

Kailey McKinley dropped in eight points with 12 rebounds, while Jenna Powell pulled down eight boards with six points.

Ashley Azevedo tallied six rebounds and three steals. Shelen Boyes added five steals and four assists for Maxwell (13-5, 5-1).

Biggs 43, Colusa 36

Emily Mobley's double-double couldn't lift the RedHawks past the Wolverines in an MVL matchup.

Mobley scored 13 points to go with 15 rebounds and five blocks. Teale Stacey also had a double-double with 13 points, 13 rebounds, three assists and two blocks.

Yasmin Moreno dropped in six points and Paige Townzen totaled eight rebounds and two assists for Colusa (12-9, 4-2).

Portola 59, Williams 42

The Yellowjackets (5-8, 0-5) kept it close against Portola (13-6, 4-1) for three quarters but the Tigers pulled away in the fourth.

JV Girls Basketball

Colusa 44, Biggs 21

Mollie Townzen scored 12 points and Andrea Thomas tacked on six for Colusa (15-4, 6-0) in an MVL win over the Wolverines.

JV Boys Basketball

Colusa 70, Biggs 35

Colusa relied on a balanced team effort in an MVL win against Biggs. Jorge Moreno scored 12 points, and Carter Cunningham and Garrett Hamilton had seven points each. Jared Huff played very well on defense and scored four points.
