Boys Soccer

Williams 5, Colusa 1

Adrian Garcia gave Colusa a 1-0 lead two minutes into the game on a free kick but Williams rallied back for a 2-1 lead at halftime.

The Yellowjackets added another goal in the 49th minute and two more late in the match for the Sacramento Valley League-Two win on Tuesday in Williams.

Santiago Bermejo scored two goals for Williams, and Jose Ordonez, Ivan Gutierrez and Jose Arambula each scored one.

Colusa goalkeeper Fernando Amador made 13 saves.

Williams 3, Esparto 2

The Yellowjackets narrowly escaped a winless Esparto boys soccer team with a win Thursday on the road.

Jose Ordonez, Rury Ruiz and Santiago Bermejo scored goals for Williams and goalie Manuel Ramirez made five saves.

Williams (7-2-2, 5-0-1) maintained its half game lead in the SVL-Two with the win.

Live Oak 5, Colusa 3

The first time Live Oak and Colusa played, the Lions won 8-0. This time around the RedHawks were in the game until the end before losing 5-3 on Thursday in Colusa.

Colusa (1-8-1, 0-4-1 SVL-Two) scored first just seven minutes into the match on a follow-up shot taken by Tyler Stirling, with the assist from a Gustavo Sanchez corner kick.

The Lions put in the equalizer at 16:00, and the go-ahead goal at the 24th minute of the game. With just seconds left in the first half Live Oak booted in their third goal to bring the halftime score to 3-1. Armando Araujo scored all three of the Lions' first half goals.

The Lions scored twice more in the second half before the RedHawks put in their second goal at the 67th minute on a penalty kick by Sanchez. Stirling closed out the scoring in the 74th minute with a goal off an assist from Felipe Granados.

Colusa goalie Christian Avila made 15 saves.

Willows 4, Pierce 2

The Honkers led 2-0 at halftime and held off a rally from the Bears in the second half for the win Thursday in Willows.

Salvador Gonzalez scored three goals for Willows and David Gonzalez added another. Fernando Cervantes tallied assists on two goals.

Pierce (6-6, 2-4 SVL-One) has lost four of its last five games and Willows (13-1-2, 5-0-1 SVL-One) remains undefeated in league.

Live Oak 9, Pierce 0

Armando Araujo scored three goals to lead Live Oak to a win against Pierce Tuesday in Live Oak.

The Lions scored three times in the first half and six more in the second. Jose Cuellar scored two goals.

Girls Soccer

Colusa 3, Live Oak 0

The RedHawks avenged a 4-1 loss earlier this year with a dominant victory on Thursday against visiting Live Oak.

Colusa scored all three goals in the first half, starting with a long crossing shot by Sandra MacPherson in the 5th minute. Kaytlin Lorenzini scored in the 35th minute off a rebound from Samantha Espindola. Espindola put the final goal in the net on a shot which deflected off a Live Oak defender.

Both teams played strong defense in the second half and Colusa improved to 7-3 overall and 5-1 in SVL-Two.

Willows 1, Pierce 0

Willows (3-9-3, 2-4-2 SVL-One) picked up its first win since Dec. 14 with home victory against Pierce on Thursday.

The Bears (3-6-1, 2-2-1 SVL-One) will have a chance to snap its two-game losing streak on Thursday against a visiting Durham High squad.

Live Oak 7, Pierce 0

The Bears allowed five first-half goals before losing to the Lions on Tuesday in Live Oak.

Esparto 2, Williams 0

Elizabeth Montes and Ana Vazquez scored goals as Esparto beat the visiting Yellowjackets Thursday.

The loss dropped Williams to 3-4-2 this year and Esparto remained atop the SVL-Two standings with the win.

Varsity Boys Basketball

Live Oak 60, Colusa 36

Live Oak (9-7, 2-2) led 32-20 at the half and stretched things out in the third quarter with a 13-4 run. A cold shooting night doomed Colusa as the RedHawks (10-8, 0-4) only made 6-of-19 free throws and shot 31 percent from the field.

Senior Bre'on Jones led Colusa with 12 points and senior Cyrus Yerxa scored 10.

The Lions' Jasnit Mahal finished with a game-high 24 points to go along with nine rebounds, and Carlos Venegas added 10 points and four assists.

The RedHawks travel to Weaverville on Saturday to face Trinity, and begin the next cycle of league play on Wednesday against Pierce.

Maxwell 65, Mercy 42

Maxwell High brushed aside Mercy on Tuesday in Red Bluff with a 65-42 win.

George Barajas had a triple-double with 17 points, 12 rebounds and 10 steals to lead the Panthers (6-14, 2-4 Tri-Cities League) to victory.

Steven Powell added 13 points and 10 rebounds.

Princeton 62, Redding Adventist 57

The Eagles pulled off an important league victory against Redding Adventist on Tuesday.

Princeton (8-9, 3-1) trailed 42-39 on the road but outscored the Lumberjacks 23-15 in the fourth quarter.

Fernando Sotelo led Princeton with 18 points and grabbed 10 rebounds. Jared Mascadri scored 17 points and added 12 rebounds. Chad Zoller reached double digits with 14 points.

Andrew Penington led Redding Adventist (6-8, 2-3) with 21 points.

Live Oak 54, Pierce 37

The Lions (8-7, 2-1) smothered the Bears on Tuesday. Aaron Pamma grabbed four steals to go with his nine points and Alex Martinez pulled down 14 rebounds to go with his 19 points to halt the Bears (10-5, 3-1) and their four-game win streak.

Jasnit Mahal added 11 points, while Carlos Venegas chipped in six.

Varsity Girls Basketball

Maxwell 52, Mercy 42

Kaily McKinley scored 18 points, Andi Robledo added 12 and Ashley Azevedo put up 11 points for Maxwell (9-8, 2-3) in the Tri-Cities League victory Tuesday in Red Bluff.

Willows 55, Pierce 31

Pierce led 12-11 after the first quarter but the Honkers poured it on in the second quarter before winning Thursday in Arbuckle.

Ally Brunner scored 20 points, had 15 rebounds and blocked five shots. Colleen Tade scored eight points, blocked four shots and had three assists for the Honkers.

Willows improved to 11-7 overall and 4-1 in SVL play. The Bears dropped to 5-10 and remain winless in five league games this season.

Redding Adventist 39, Princeton 36

Princeton struggled during the middle of the game but came on strong at the end before falling short against Redding Adventist on Tuesday.

Amanda Hansen led the Eagles with 14 points, 15 rebounds, five steals and four assists.

Mindi Perez chipped in 10 points and Maryssa Martin added nine.

Live Oak 65, Pierce 51

Pierce remained winless in SVL play after a 65-51 loss to host Live Oak High on Tuesday.

JV Girls Basketball

Colusa 34, Live Oak 20

Sally Loeza led Colusa to a home victory against Live Oak on Thursday, scoring nine points.

Emily Corriea added eight points, and Ashley Ornbaun and Taylor Davies both scored five for the RedHawks (5-12, 2-2 SVL).

Pierce 41, Live Oak 18

The Bears led 33-6 at halftime and cruised to the win on Tuesday in Live Oak.

Mariah Daiz led Pierce with 23 points. Haleigh Shadinger, Natalie Corona and Kelsie Kent each scored four points.
