Numbers don’t add up for Princeton volleyball
Numbers and statistics are an
integral part of virtually every competitive sport, and while it's been said
that "the numbers tell the story," that was not quite the case for the No.
6-seeded Princeton Lady Eagles Thursday.
The Eagles outscored the
visiting and lower-seeded (11) Champion Christian in total points 119-113, and
averaged 26.25 points across the first four games of the five game-match.
However the tale the numbers added up to tell was that following the 25-18,
24-26, 31-33, 25-20, 14-16 loss to the Mustangs, the book on Eagles volleyball
for 2008 had been closed.
Princeton attacked for 30
points in the five games, led by Kodi Gimblin's 10, and followed by the efforts
of Davi Schmidt (9), Mia Nelson (6) and Anna Martin (5).
Gimblin also led the Lady
Eagles at the service line, earning 17 points that included five aces. Martin
added 13 points with six aces, and Schmidt chipped in with 10 points with three
ace serves, along with a team-leading 12 assists.
Princeton closed the season
at 12-11-1.
