Cats rout Gridley in final game
The Colusa County Cats completed the regular season with a 16-4 nine-inning win over Gridley on Monday to head into the district tournament with a 27-7 overall record.
The Cats played their first district playoff game on Wednesday. Results were not available at press time. The Cats will play at Doryland Field throughout the weekend with the championship game scheduled for Saturday evening at 7 p.m. Colusa is the defending champion.
Against Gridley, the Cats got strong offensive efforts from Memo Rodriguez, Brandon Rader, Hayden Meyers, James Bowen and Sean Rawlin to win easily.
Rodriguez was 3-for-4 with three runs scored, a triple and an RBI. Rader was 2-for-4 with three runs and an RBI while Meyers was 2-for-4 with a run scored on a three-run home run in the fourth inning. Rawlin was 3-for-3 and scored four times. He also had an RBI and a double. James Bowen also had three hits, going 3-for-5 with an RBI.
Darren Swearinger also added an RBI single while Jeremy Hubbard had a two-run single.
Bowen started on the mound and went three innings. He gave way to Hubbard in the second inning, and he was replaced by Dylan DeWit in the sixth. Swearinger threw the last frame. The quartet allowed four runs on four hits with 10 strikeouts.
