Lady Redskins net 1-1 week

The Lady Redskins split a pair of matches played on successive nights, going five games before picking up a home victory over Maxwell Tuesday, but then losing at Winters Wednesday.

After dropping the first game to Maxwell 22-25, Colusa posted convincing victories in the next two, by scores of 25-15, 25-7.

Maxwell did not give in, however, rallying back to force a fifth and deciding game with a 25-14 win in Game 4.

The Redskins were up to the challenge and put away a tough home win by beating the Panthers 15-8 in the deciding game.

The Redskins benefited from strong serving off the hands of Lexi Craft and Magaly Acevedo, as Kraft served up 16 points with a trio of aces, and Acevedo's 17 points included a pair of aces.

Colusa's middle hitters each reached double digits in kills as sophomore Caroline Meyers put down a team-leading 19, while Erika Avina floored a dozen.

Acevedo showed her value in the setter spot by putting up 34 assists.

On Wednesday the Redskins collected a win in the first game but would not win another, losing to Winters 26-24, 19-25, 25-27, 11-25.

Kraft and Avina led Colusa at the service line, with 12 and seven points, respectively, but the attacks were not there the way they were the previous night, with Meyers' 12 leading the Redskins, and Avina pitching in nine.

Acevedo set up 23 points, but it was not enough to keep the Redskins from falling to 2-4.

Colusa played at Williams Tuesday, and gets to enjoy a brief break before its next game,  which will be an Oct. 7 match played at Durham.
