Varsity Boys Basketball

Pierce 60, Hamilton 55

Hayden Kalfsbeek gave Pierce High the lead late in the fourth quarter with a 3-pointer and the Bears (6-4, 3-0 Sacramento Valley League) held off Hamilton (6-5, 0-1 SVL) in the final minutes to win on Wednesday in Arbuckle.

Oscar Dorantes led the Bears with 19 points, Andy Corona added 15, Jesus Huerta scored eight and Preston Smith chipped in six.

Boys Soccer

Williams 4, Colusa 1

Jose Ordonez and Alex Gomez scored twice and the Yellowjackets broke open a tie game with three goals in the second half.

Strong defense by Robert Cazares kept the RedHawks off the board in the second half after Colusa forward Gustavo Sanchez scored a goal in the first half.

Williams (5-2-1, 3-1-1 SVL-2) stretched its win streak to three games with the victory. Colusa (3-5-1, 1-4 SVL-2) lost its third-consecutive game.

Live Oak 5, Pierce 1

Live Oak scored four second-half goals and beat visiting Pierce 5-1 on Thursday.

The Bears (2-2-2) lost for the first time since the first game of the season.

Williams 5, Los Molinos 1

Salvador Ramirez scored twice and the Yellowjackets beat Los Molinos 5-1 on Tuesday in Los Molinos.

Alex Gomez, Johnny Santos and Joseph Alva added goals for Williams. Gabby Chavez scored the Bulldogs' lone goal in the second half.

Hamilton 2, Colusa 1

A late rally fell short for Colusa High against visiting Hamilton in a Sacramento Valley League-Two match on Tuesday and the RedHawks came away with a 2-1 loss.

The game was scoreless until the 32nd minute when Hamilton scored on a quick free kick, which they got off before Colusa was set and entered the half up 1-0.

The Braves added a score in the 45th minute but Colusa came back with a goal in the 75th minute on a shot by forward Gustavo Sanchez with an assist from Diego Jimenez. Colusa nearly tied the game in the waning minutes but the shot sailed over the cross bar.

The RedHawks had strong play from fullbacks Jose Santana, Fernando Morales, Ryan Manning, Luis Padilla and Pedro Lopez. Halfback standouts were Felipe Granados and Alfonso Ruiz. Goalkeeper Fernando Amador had a great game with 11 saves.

Girls Soccer

Pierce 3, Live Oak 2

Pierce (3-2-2, 1-0 SVL-2) scored a game-winning goal in the second half after entering halftime tied 2-2 against host Live Oak on Thursday.

Marissa Espino scored twice and Erica Granados added a goal for the Bears. Goalkeeper Brenda Leos made four saves.

Colusa 9, Hamilton 0

Colusa erupted for six goals in the second half and picked up their first win of the season on Tuesday against visiting Hamilton, 9-0.

Rebecca Velazquez scored three goals, Stephanie Munguia scored two goals and the RedHawks received a goal apiece from Samantha Espindola, Mariana Martinez, Ashleigh Biggs and Valeria Dominguez.

Biggs contributed three assists and goalkeeper Jennifer Pulido picked up the shutout after spending all 80 minutes in goal.

JV Boys Basketball

Williams 46, Pierce 44

The Yellowjackets intercepted a pass with six seconds left in a tied game and scored as time expired for a close win against Pierce on Thursday in Arbuckle.

Luis Davalos scored 21 points for Williams and Alfredo Velasquez scored 10 and Martin Solis added eight.

Jake Voorhees led Pierce with 21 points, and Julian Jauregui and Zack High added eight points.

Pierce 40, Hamilton 29

Jake Voorhees scored 20 points and led the Bears junior varsity boys team to victory on Wednesday in Hamilton City.

Saul Mendez scored seven points and Zack High added four points for the Bears.
