Colusa sending two girls to run state cross-country meet
When the pack of runners takes to the course in Fresno Nov. 29 in the state cross-country meet, two familiar faces will be lacing up their running shoes with the state's finest.
Colusa's Carli Marengo and Mimi Rinzler qualified to run in the state meet with their finishes in the Northern Section varsity cross-country championships ran Nov. 13 at West Valley High School.
The Redskins finished sixth at West Valley, behind just Chico, Enterprise, Mt. Shasta, West Valley and Durham, but ahead of 16 other schools. Marengo covered the three-mile West Valley course in 21:00.30, which was 18th best in the field of 161 runners, and Rinzler's 21:19.97 was good for 23rd.
Teammate Kiely Herrick crossed the line in 22:35.56; Leslie Lopez, 24:14.68; Kristy Nair, 25:14.41; and Violeta Garcia, 26:58.58.
The squads from Corning and Williams also competed, with Corning times being: Isabell Meraz, 23:25.74; Viviana Ramirez, 26:53.21; Angel Valdez, 27:04.53; and Angela Torres, 27:04.00.
Finishing for Williams were: Maria Noyola-Jiminez, 26:43.39; Cynthia Pineda, 26:57.01; Elsa Mora, 27:02.62; Brenda Arambula, 27:51.97; Mariela Arambula, 27:58.03; and Sandra Cruz, 29:26.71.
