RedHawks, 'Jackets swing into league golf season
The Colusa and Williams high school golf teams took the links at Yoche Dehe Golf Club in Brooks on Monday, to play in the first league match of the season, hosted by Esparto.
The squads finished third and fourth among the five teams on the course. The order of finish was Durham (474), Willows (484), Colusa (491), Williams (583) and Esparto (649). The hosts only had three golfers, so the highest score from among those three was assigned to the two open slots, giving the Spartans their 649.
Durham's winning effort was led by Bryce Daarud's 86 (41/55). Joining him were Carson Hunt (90), Trevor Merrs (99), Jacob Van Cott (100) and Dylan Lundberg (101).
For the RedHawks, Sheldon Trotchie's 89 was a team best and was second-lowest overall on the day. He followed his 45 on the front nine with a 44 on the back. Nick Reynoso also scored under 100, with matching 47's giving him a 94. Chris Avila added a 100 (49/51); Nate Lyss, a 103 (49/54) and Michael Rea, a 106 (50/56).
The first three Yellowjackets shot very close to each other, with Christian Solis' 103 being three strokes better than the 106's carded by Carlos Sandoval and Jose Ordonez. Solis' round consisted of a 58/45, while Sandoval's was a 56/50 and Ordonez's, 48/58. Yovani Franco added a 136 (65/71) and Oscar Ruiz, a 132 (68/64).
