Wells' run deep with talent
All's Wells for Maxwell High School's baseball and softball teams.
Sophomores Tyler and Laura Wells were each key components to the success of the Maxwell High baseball and softball teams this season. Neither sophomore holds bragging rights, however, as each was named to the Northern Section's All-Section first team in their respective sport.
Laura was selected as the third baseman, although she also spent a good deal of time in the pitching circle this season, compiling a 6-2 record and also earning a save.
Offensively, Laura led the Lady Panthers hitting at a sizzling .662 clip. She also led the team in doubles (14), hits (47), RBIs (37) and runs scored (39). No slouch with the glove, she put up a .931 fielding percentage at the hot corner and on the rubber.
Tyler was selected as a utility player, as the southpaw split time on the mound and at first base.
As a pitcher, Tyler led the staff with an 11-1 mark with a 1.65 ERA. He struck out 107 and walked just 24 batters.
Tyler swung the bat for a team-leading .500 batting average, and led the Panthers in hits (43), RBIs (45) and doubles (14).
