Colusa JV girls still best in SVL
The Colusa High School junior varsity boys found some competition at a Sacramento Valley League meet in Durham last week, falling to the host Trojans 125-95.
The defeat marked the first time this year that the Redskins have failed to win a dual meet.
The Redskins still got some sparkling performances as Carlos Gutierrez won the 200 meters (25.17) and the long jump (19-6) while Hayden Duron won the shot put (42-5) and the discus (111-1). Darren Smith also won the triple jump (39-0).
Pierce had an individual champion on the 100 meters with Jordon Diston holding off Gutierrez for first place by the slimmest of margins. Diston won in 12.46 while Gutierrez clocked the distance in 12.48 seconds.
Pierce finished third in the point standings with 79.
The Colusa junior varsity girls had no problem staying unbeaten as they racked up 172 points to easily defeat the field by over 116 points.
Caroline Meyer won the 100 meters (13.9) and the long jump (14-8), but the highlight of the day was Meyer’s win in the 200 meters over Willows Chantal Vanderbilt, a former Northern Section champion. Meyer’s sprinted the distance in 28.29 seconds compared to 30.14 for Vanderbilt.
Other winners for Colusa in the JV girls division included Lauren Charter in the 200 (31.67) and the 300 hurdles (62.26), Carli Marengo in the 400 (1:11.1) and the 800 (2:31.3), Cally Bailey in the 100 hurdles (19.4) and the triple jump (27-4), Tenille Tauscher in the shot put (25-1.5) and the discus (67-3).
In the varsity division, Michael Barber led Pierce to a tie with Durham at 101 points. Barber won the long jump (20-3), the triple jump (40-6) and finished second in the 110 hurdles (17.95).
