Cowboys square off with Oroville Eagles

The Colusa Cowboys hosted a tough Southern Conference Division I opponent in the Oroville Eagles for a full slate of games on Saturday at Colusa High.

Colusa, which plays in the Northern California Federation of Youth Football's Southern Conference Division II, won the midgets game but lost the junior midget and peewee contests.

This Saturday the Cowboys travel to Chico to take on the defending Northern California midget champion Chico Jaguars.

Oroville 28, Colusa 2 (peewees)

Christian Lyss and Shane Calcagno brought down an Oroville running back for a safety and a 2-0 lead early in the game but the Eagles stormed back for a 28-2 victory.

Oroville's Blege Thomas rushed for three long touchdowns after having several long runs called back on penalties early in the game.

Lyss led Colusa (1-1) with 37 yards rushing. Connor Saso ran for 12 yards, Jacob Havens ran for 7 yards and Xavier Lopez added five yards on the ground. Luke Voorhees had 20 yards receiving.

On defense, Calcagno made 8 tackles, Brenden Garcia made six tackles, and Lyss and Askil Coombs made five tackles. Tommy Davis intercepted a pass.

Oroville 21, Colusa 0 (jr. midgets)

The Colusa (0-2) offense was able to move the ball better in the second half but couldn't break through for a score against a tough Oroville Eagles junior midget squad and lost 21-0 .

Dutch Kalfsbeek passes for 130 yards and ran for 68. His favorite target in the game was Ben Rainsbarger who rushed for 80 yards and added 75 yards receiving. Fernando Castillo had 50 yards receiving and Levi Kalfsbeek added five yards.

Castillo led the team with six tackles and intercepted a pass. Rainsbarger made five tackles, Raymond Frias made four, Dutch Kalfsbeek made four, and Levi Kalfsbeek was in on three tackles and recovered a fumble.

Colusa 43, Oroville 0 (midgets)

The Colusa Cowboys pulled out to a 30-0 lead at halftime and the Oroville Eagles were unable to find the end zone during the final game of the day.

Colusa (2-0) received three touchdowns and 63 rushing yards from Lucas Davison, and Dylan Jones ran for 118 yards and two touchdowns. Angel Hernandez ran for 91 yards, Ricardo Ruvacaba added 17 yards and Cody More rushed for 15 yards. Tony Mena kicked three point after attempts.

Raphael Delgado returned an interception 37 yards for a touchdown, and Jones, Hernandez and Juan Huerta also intercepted passes. Jason Fred and Cole Travis recovered fumbles for the Cowboys.
